NEW DESIGN FOR WEBSITE
January 04, 2010
The long awaited, newly redesigned nataliemerchant.com was launched on January 4, 2010. Over the course of a full year, Natalie Merchant collaborated with web development firm Evolving Media Network, including visual designers André Malkine and David Perry, to build a streamlined, content-rich site with an extensive archive of visual and audio material spanning the full 30 years of the artist's career as a singer-songwriter. The site is organized into 13 distinct time periods or "project cycles" named after the albums she has released in succession from 1981-2007. This chronology includes all of Merchant's solo albums in addition to those recorded with the band 10,000 Maniacs. The earliest project cycle, "Bunny Girl," contains childhood photographs and home movies from 1963-1980. Within each project cycle the user can choose to read, watch or listen. Currently, the READ section contains all lyrics to songs recorded by the artist (organized both alphabetically and by album). WATCH contains archival video and film, interviews and performances. LISTEN offers the opportunity to hear two-minute segments of every track Merchant has ever commercially released along with a simultaneous slide show of images (publicity photos, album artwork, posters, etc.) related to the selected album.
The site is designed for expansion in every area, so please watch for the appearance of audio and film clips from the double album, Leave Your Sleep, due for release on Nonesuch records on April 13th.
