February 19, 2010

For the past 16 years some of the most innovative and creative people working in the fields of Technology, Education and Design have been gathering to share ideas at TED conferences in both the US and the UK on an annual basis with additional events held in Africa and South Asia. These four-day conferences revolve around the 18-minute-long presentations made by invited speakers. Natalie performed at the TED conference on February 12, 2010 in Long Beach, CA.

From the TED mission statement:

"We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we're building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world's most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other."

The theme of the conference was "What the World Needs Now" and this year's key speakers included Elie Weisel (writer and activist), Bill Gates (founder of Microsoft and world-renowned philanthropist), Jamie Oliver (TV chef and campaigner for healthy living), Daniel Kahneman (Nobel Prize winning economist), Cheryl Hayashi (spider silk scientist), Sam Harris (neuroscientist and philosopher), Kevin Bales (anit-slavery activist), David Byrne (musician and artist), Mark Roth (biochemist researching suspended animation), Eve Ensler (play-write and activist) and many more.

In 2007 TED launched a website where all the lectures are archived. You can view Natalie's performance here.
