August 27th, 2005

Hello,

I'm happy to announce that the "hits & rarities" project that I've been assembling over the past four months is finished and will be released on September 27th. It was decided that there would be two versions of "RETROSPECTIVE" made available to you. There will be a jewel case version containing all the singles that I've released during my solo career (1995-2005). There will also be a limited deluxe edition (10,000 copies) of a 2-CD version that will have all the singles on one disc and the other disc will have a collection of unreleased tracks, B-sides, benefit and soundtrack songs and collaborations with various artists (1990-2005). I'm very excited that the folks at Rhino Records offered to help me gather together all the Elektra singles and the other tracks scattered around various labels' tape vaults to make these compilations. Many of the tracks were originally small releases and are currently out-of print. They are some of my favorite recordings and I'm glad to see them rescued from obscurity.

In addition to all the rare and previously unreleased tracks, I recorded two acoustic songs specifically for "RETROSPECTIVE". In the photo on the previous page, Erik Della Penna and I are in the backyard of my house. Earlier this summer we spent the day in the studio recording making an acoustic version of "Tell Yourself" for "RETROSPECTIVE".

Another piece of news is that the South African a cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo asked if I could join them in singing a track on their upcoming album. Due to logistical difficulties, we were unable to meet and sing together in person, but because of the state of recording technology, I was able to put down a track of vocals remotely (in my garage) and send it to Africa for inclusion. What an amazing experience to hear their voices in my headphones and join in. We'll let you know when the release date is announced.

All for now. Take Care,

Natalie
